Matcha Latte with Fresh Cashew Milk Latte (Recipe)
Learn how to make a homemade matcha latte with fresh cashew milk. It tastes way better than what you will get at any coffee shop!

Why matcha?
Matcha gives you calm, focused energy. Additionally, it support your mood, metabolism and defends against free radicals in the body.
My new years resolution was to switch from espresso / coffee to matcha. I started to hate how jittery and wired I was feeling with coffee. Plus, I read some unpleasant facts about coffee that made me think twice about consuming it. I grew up drinking coffee starting in high school. I even got a Smeg espresso machine a few years ago for my birthday that I was so excited about. So it was sad to not be putting that to use anymore.

I can say after 7 months of not drinking coffee, I haven’t looked back! I have loved the sustained energy levels I get throughout the day with matcha. A warm, foamy matcha latte is so comforting to me now! Lately, I have even come to love the grassy earthy taste.
I love going to coffee shops on the weekends. In the beginning of my matcha journey I would order a matcha latte at whatever coffee shop we were at and I was happy they even had it on the menu. But, I was always a bit disappointed that it didn’t taste as good as what I was making at home. Plus, the matcha lattes at the coffee shops had too much matcha powder in it and not enough milk and water. And some were too sweet for my liking.
What is in a matcha latte?
I use half water, half cashew milk and a teaspoon of matcha powder.
There is usually some variation of water, milk, and matcha powder. Some people also add a sweetener.
Cashew Milk is the Best Nut Milk for Matcha Lattes
I love the mild flavor of cashew milk. It is slightly sweet with a slight nut taste. Additionally, it froths really well and creates an irresistible foam.

Matcha Latte with Cashew Milk Ingredients
1/2 cup warm water
1/2 cup frothed warm homemade cashew milk (you can substitute with any nut or cow’s milk). Check out my homemade cashew milk recipe here!
1 teaspoon of matcha powder (I use Pique)
Matcha Latte with Cashew Milk Instructions
First, heat up the water in a tea kettle on the stove. Warm up for just a few minutes so it’s not boiling at all. If the water is too hot and mixes with the matcha powder, it will leave you with a wierd texture and burnt taste. The powder won’t be able to dissolve as well into the liquids.

Next, froth your cashew milk or milk of choice. I use a machine that is a warmer and frother all in one.

Add the matcha powder to the mug

After, pour your frothed & warmed milk into a mug and and stir with a fork, matcha whisk or hand frother.

Lastly, add the hot water to the mug and stir again until the matcha has incorporated.

Can you drink matcha while pregnant?
Yes you can! In fact it contains less caffeine than coffee so it’s a great alternative if you are looking to cut back on your daily caffeine intake. Matcha has about 50-75mg of caffeine in a cup and coffee has 100-140mg of caffeine per cup.
Matcha Brand I reccomend
I use the Pique matcha. It’s organic and has really high quality ingredients that are carefully sourced. Plus, they use triple toxin screening for purity and bioactivity.
